SUNDAY, July 5, 2015 Special Music- Kathy Bowman

Sanctuary: “He Could do no Miracles There”
Scripture: Mark 6: 1 – 13
Thoughts on the Word: For this Sunday we have the stories of two young men, both of them 30 something’s, both of them loved by their followers. David and Jesus. David is very sure of himself, a charismatic leader, quick to us power and sometimes in ways that make us uncomfortable with him. In the 2nd Samuel passage, Jerusalem is called “the city of David”(5:9), in Psalm 48:1 it is “the city belonging to our God.” How different from David is the other young man, Jesus. His power is easily dismissed and disregarded, he sends out, not armies to fight battles, but disciples two by two with nothing but a staff and the clothes on their backs to share the good news of God’s love & peace. This young man and his disciples changed the world in amazing ways and are still changing it today!

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS: Spiri Trust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice provides grief services to our bereaved families for at least 13 months after their loved one dies. Their “Bereavement Bread” program is designed to extend condolences to our families and to introduce the bereavement support services. Shortly after the death, a staff member or volunteer delivers a freshly baked loaf of sweet bread to the family to let them know they are not alone. The bread is baked by volunteers who have eagerly grasped this opportunity to serve those grieving the loss of a loved one. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to bake bread to support this wonderful program. Bread can be baked by individuals or groups and one time donations are greatly appreciated! If you are interested in helping to support this effort or for more information, please call us at: 717-757-0774.
