Thoughts on the Word: Don’t we just love a good party? This Sunday is a special day in the life of the Church! It is Pentecost Sunday, the birthday of the church. So let’s throw a birthday party for the church!
The church would not have survived and lived as long as it has if it weren’t for Servant Leaders within the on-going witness and work of the church. We have servant leaders all around us and within the body of the church. Every church has servant leaders or it doesn’t stay alive for very long. The servant leaders we are celebrating today are those who help lead us in our worship of God each week. The choirs and the worship leaders, the nursery workers and the altar committee, along with adio-visual crew and the ushers, to list just a few. So many people that we see and do not see each week. The Worship Team that meets each month to try and address the worship needs of the congregation. One person that serves and supports us all is Karen Bowman, our office administrator. Her work behind the scenes makes our worship truly amazing!
On another note, the servant leader of the larger church, Annual Conference Moderator for this year, Andy Murray, has asked that we celebrate Pentecost this year with prayer and fasting for this years Annual Conference in Greensboro North Carolina this Sunday. This Sunday we will have a delegate briefing at the Carlisle Church of the Brethren at 2 pm. It is open to anyone who wishes to attend, not just delegates. So if you would to be informed about what is going to take place at this years Annual Conference come on out.
We have all been called and strengthen for the tasks Christ Jesus is calling us to be a part of in the life of the church. Listening to God and each other is crucial to our time together as a community of faith. Above everything, put on the love of God from within your hearts, put on love for God and for each other, and indeed for the entire world!
Next Sunday: “Full of grace and truth” Text: John 1:14, John 16:12-15

Andy Murray, 2016 Annual Conference Moderator wrote:
I am often asked: “What are your hopes for Annual Conference?” One of my fondest hopes is that each person who comes will be aware of the importance of what he or she brings to Conference; that each of us will consider that what we will give in Greensboro will be as significant as what we get.
Just a reminder that our briefing for delegates and all interested persons will be held on Sunday, May 15th, 2pm at the Carlisle Church of the Brethren.
Andy has called all who can to make that day a day of prayer and fasting.
