Scripture: Mark 4: 35 – 41
Thoughts on the Word: First of all, Happy Fathers Day to all of our Dads! The Gospel lesson from Mark 4:35-41 for this week depicts the one who carried no sword as having power over the very elements of earth and water and wind. The heavenly Father had given him the authority to speak peace into every situation. Jesus’ presence with us gives us the courage to face danger and overcome our fears, for God listens and responds to those who call on the name of the Lord.

WOW! WHAT AN AMAZING YARD SALE… OF COURSE! OUR FINAL TOTAL FOR OUR YARD SALE COMES OUT TO ……………… DRUM ROLL please!!!! $ 4,669.70 which is $ 484.55 more than last year. THIS IS PHENOMENAL!!!! All monies go into an account that will benefit our youth for Youth Conference. We just can’t thank you enough for all the good that came out of this yard sale this year. ~ Kathy & Dolly

First Church is beginning an effort aimed at strengthening marriages. We will be establishing a new couples small group called “Two to One”, as well as periodically including a “Marriage Thought for the Day” in e-news. Questions/comments/suggestions can be directed to Carol and Ken via phone or email (momfornine@aol.com or dadofnine@aol.com).
Marriage Thought for the Day: Depending on what we read or to whom we listen, we’ll find many “keys” to a good marriage. Different “keys” will be meaningful to some couples but not meaningful to others. We’ll write these with the hope that every once in a while one will strike a chord! This week, the quote below is from The Marriage You’ve “Always Wanted by Gary Chapman:
Love is kind. Acts of kindness are one of love’s strongest voices. One limited only by her(his) imagination and will. Supermarket tulips on a dull winter day say “I love you” to all but the wife who is allergic to flowers. That text message in the midst of the workday to say “You are the greatest husband in the world” may well make it so……How long has it been since you wrote your mate a love letter? “Don’t be silly,” someone will say. “I see him every day. Why write a letter?” Because you will say some things in a love letter that you do not say in verbal conversation. A love letter a month will keep a marriage alive and growing. A letter is an act of kindness…..Think of something you can do every day to express your love to your mate. Having completed the deed, say verbally, “I love you!” Do not be like the man who told me: “I told my wife I loved her when I asked her to marry me. If I ever change my mind, I’ll let her know.” Love is not a once-and-for-all act. It is a way of life.
LOOKING AHEAD…….
JULY 3, 2015 – The Women’s Fellowship Choir of EYN (Ekklesiyar Yan-uwa, the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria) will perform on Friday, July 3, at 7:00 pm in the Nicarry Meetinghouse on the campus of CKV-TBHC. This free, public concert is in appreciation of the support Nigerians have received from American Brethren during the recent persecution, violence and hardship related to the Boko Haram jihadist group, which is estimated to have killed 10,000 civilians in Nigeria last year. The choir is part of a larger group touring the U.S. in June and July, concluding at the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference in Florida. Information on the bus trip to the Annual Conference July 11-15, Tampa, Florida This is to inform you that I will be hosting an Elite Coach to the July 11 – 15 Annual Conference in Tampa, Florida this summer. People have been inquiring about this possibility.
With a minimum of 35 participants, the cost will be $789 per person double occupancy and that is all inclusive, conference lodging, enroute lodging, ,transportation and driver gratuity. It does not include meals (except breakfasts along the way) while traveling or at conference.
