– Sanctuary: “Legion”
– Scripture: Luke 8:26-39
Thoughts on the Word: Our text for today addresses some very timely issues in light of the ongoing violence in our world, especially in Orlando Florida this past week. Faith casts out fear, and with the strength of God’s love, all things are possible. The texts takes us across the Sea of Galilee to the region known as the “country of the Gerasenes.” Here Jesus encounters a man named “Legion” because he is possessed by many demons. The people of Gerasenes knew fear, but instead of listening to Jesus and finding their hope renewed, they chased him away. The man possessed with the demons is healed, he finds that faith casts out fear. When faith meets fear head on it drives is out! Faith speaks to our inner most fears and says peace and be still for the God of love lives here. Amen.
Next week’s text: Luke 9:51-62, Sermon title: “Cost of following Jesus”
