Thoughts on the Word: God’s Word for us this week, invites us to delight in both creation and the love we have for God and each other. The Psalm 45 passage reveals the importance of inspiration in the Word. The passage from James 1 for this week speaks of the dangers of angry words, it invites us to listen to God’s transforming Word, and calls us to act upon God’s Word of freedom. Jesus rebukes those who speak empty words and calls people to live in ways that speak God’s Word of purity and love. The passages for this week present a balance between being and doing. The sensual delights of the Song of Songs and Psalm passages, speaks of the gifts of the senses to God’s creatures in his creation. James and Mark invite us to act in ways that reflect God’s love in our lives, and to all those we meet and know.

RUN FOR “Relief”…..
NEW this year at the Brethren Disaster Relief Auction is the First 5K Run on September 26, 8:00 AM at the Lebanon Expo Center.
First Church is organizing a TEAM to participate. So far there are four interested persons, and our goal is to have a large group representing First Church. Financial Support is needed to sponsor the TEAM for the Race. This support will pay the registration fees and contribute to the Auction.
If you can run or walk please consider participating with the TEAM in this run. If the physical activity is not for you, please consider financial support. So far $15.00 has been raised, which translates to $3.00 a mile. The goal is $500.00 or $100.00 per mile.
All the proceeds from the Run for “Relief” will directly support disaster ministries, locally and worldwide.

On Saturday, August 8th, Justin Paul Stehr and Casey Nicole Merrill were married at the Country Club of York. Justin is the son of Tammy and Barry Stehr and the grandson of Dolores Mann. Did you notice the new plantings outside the church office area as you come into church? Please give a BIG THANK YOU to Richard Brown, who designed and planted the area this week. Thanks also to John Anderson for helping with the installation, and Brad Shenk for trimming some of the tall evergreens in the area. Now we should be able to enjoy this beautiful landscaping for many years to come. – Roy Rollman for the Facility Care Team.

THANK YOU very much, to the many people that have made casseroles for Our Daily Bread soup kitchen each month. We get many compliments on the food as we serve the casseroles and they certainly do disappear fast. THANK YOU to the faithful servers.

SEPTEMBER 15, 2015 – LADIES BIBLE STUDY – will begin a new session every Tuesday morning starting Sept. 15th from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM in the church lounge. We are currently studying Max Lucado’s “Traveling Light” and we are always looking for new ladies to join us. So if you want to dig deeper into your own faith and strengthen your walk with Christ plus meet new sisters – this is the place to be on Tuesday mornings. First COB, Here are some ways we can all help to make the Brethren Disaster Relief Auction a SUCCESS! It will be held Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26. Thank You for your consideration.

1. Rent a space to sell your arts and crafts. 2. Share a meal. Have one at your house or buy tickets for someone else’s home, $ 20.00 each. 3. Make and donate a quilt for the quilt auction. 4. Baking cakes, pies, cookies, breads, etc. (pick up pans after Aug. 16) 5. Donations of items for the Main Auction. 6. Donate new toys, books, puzzles, etc. for the children’s auction. 7. Bring gently used items for the Children’s Store. 8. Make one or more theme basket worth at least $ 35.00 or donate money. 9. First Annual 5K race. All ages. Runners or walkers. Cash prizes. Tee Shirt. Be a Sponser. 10. Help — Set up for Auction on Thursday, Sept. 24 and/or tear down after on Sat., Sept. 26th.
