Sanctuary: “First Let the Children Eat All They Want”
Scripture: Mark 7: 24-37
Thoughts on the Word: As we study and consider the life of our Lord and Savior, Jesus we see him continually breaking down barriers that would divide people. Rich and poor, insider and outsider, male and female, body and spirit, on and on the list could go. God welcomes all, and we are called to likewise! This is in effect where we left off last Sunday but it bears repeating again this week. I want to follow those comments up with the theme of universal desire for healing and wholeness, and that God’s healing embraces everyone. While it is necessary that we work for peace and justice, we must also recognize inner peace and communion with God and neighbor as equally important gifts. Faith in action is made real or manifest when we genuinely care for the least of these, the hurting, and the vulnerable. Healing gestures contribute to the wellness of the individual as well as the community, and reflect our faith in God.
